  2. Tao likes to draw the animals in his life. Unfortunately the people in his clan do not like it because it is taboo. This means that it is forbidden by the laws of the tribe to do it. If Tao wanted to be a “chosen one” he would have to be the son of a shaman or the chief. Tao desperately wants to be a “chosen one “because of his passion to draw and paint.

    1. Tao helped the wolf dog by bravely removing a bone that was stuck in the wolf’s jaw. Tao took a risky chance, however the outcome was successful. Tao and the wolf cub are alike because both of them are hungry and, I think the wolf cub had to go to get the bone out or else he can’t come to his pack which is similar to Tao getting the rabbit.

    Question 2

Tao helped the wolf by pulling out the bone stuck in the wolf’s jaw. It helped the wolf because when he pulled the bone out of the wolf’s mouth, the wolf could finally hunt and feed. I think Tao and the wolf are similar because they are both care about others. Tao cares about his clan and hunts food for his clan when they are starving. He cares for Kala and brings her food before he eats. The wolf is kind to others because he did not attack Tao because he somehow knew that Tao could help him because he was in trouble and need help.

  9. Question 2- The slough is a forsaken place with a creek with an abundance of food. New watercress, berries, mushrooms, and mussels fill the slough. The slough is forbidden because the elders of Tao’s clan say that it is ruled by the demons. I agree with Tao’s decision to enter the slough because it had food and he was growing weak with hunger. Tao couldn’t find food anywhere else and I think that is why he entered it. Maggie M. 

  10. Tao helped the wolf dog by getting the splinter of bone out of his mouth. The bone was a major obstacle for the dog, as it made him unable to feed and hunt. When Tao dislodged the bone, it was as if he removed a boulder out of the wolf dog's path. Tao and the wolf are alike because they are seemingly both rejects of their groups. Also, they are both extremely hungry.

  15. Tao said “Your demon pain is gone, now you can eat,” to the wolf dog because it had a bone sliver in its upper jaw and Tao pulled it out. The reason the wolf dog was not eating was because he had the bone sliver in its jaw and when Tao pulled it out the wolf dog could eat again. Tao and the wolf dog are alike because they are both hungry and they both trust each other, Tao trusts the wolf dog will not eat him and the wolf dog trusts Tao will not kill him for food.

    2. The slough is a dark marshland of winding creeks. I do not believe that Tao’s decision was wise. Disobeying rules/ taboos is worthy of banishment. He is already 95% close to being banished, so why add the extra 5% to guarantee it?

    Chapter 2
Tao helped the wolf dog by pulling out a shimmering bone from his jaw so he could eat and the pain would be relieved. Additionally the dog and Tao are alike because they have both been banished by their own clan and they are both hungry. Also the slough is a large swamp where the demons hide and it is forbidden for that reason. Tao entered the slough because he does not believe in demons, he made the right decision because their probably is no demons in the slough.

    2. The slough is a swampy, marshy, grassy forested area. It is forbidden because it is thought to have evil spirits there and the clan is scared to go near it. I agree with Tao’s decision to enter for he is starving and I wouldn’t believe the story of evil spirits. Although, I didn’t like the part in the book where he didn’t believe in the spirits but, he is one of the clan. The clan believed in that.

  37. Question 1
Tao helps the wolf dog by removing a sliver of bone that was caught in the wolf dog's teeth. Tao and the wolf dog are alike because they are both outcasts because of their differences (In Tao's case his foot, in the wolf dog's his sliver of bone), but Tao has removed the sliver of bone from the wolf's muzzle, and now he can eat and be normal again.

  38. When Tao says, “I will not eat while others are hungry,” it means that Tao’s tribe does not have a large supply of food. It is hard to find food and his tribe might start starving soon if they don’t get enough food for everyone. Where he lives, it has been hard to hunt for food since it is not summer yet. Right now, it might not be the best time to hunt for animals if they are not thriving, and because of that, it is difficult to hunt for food. Since his tribe is so big, it would be hard to feed everyone. Therefore, Tao is a caring person because he will not feed himself while others are near starvation. He is not selfish because he cares about if others are fed too. Tao is a kind and caring person with a good personality, that not only cares about himself, but the condition of others too.

  39. Tao helped the dog by taking out a bone that was stuck in the wolf’s tooth. Tao and the wolf both got sent out by their clan, are out in the wilderness, and they are searching for food. It was forbidden because the Elders believe demons live in there. If I were in Tao’s position, I would go into the Slough because first of all I would be hungry, and I would want to go back home to Kala.

  40. What I like about chapter 1 of Boy of the Painted Cave is how Tao knows that drawing is a taboo but Tao still love's to draw but I don't like how Volt was so mean about losing the rabbit.

  41. When Tao says, “Your demon of pain is gone. Now you can eat again,” he means that the wolf can eat again because he pried of the splintered bone from the wolf’s jaws. He helped the wolf by jumping on him and sticking his hand into the wolf’s jaw and yanking out the splintered bone. Tao is heroic because he helped the wolf when he was in very bad pain. They are alike because they have both been banished from their clan or pack for a while. Tao and the wolf are both kind because Tao feeds the wolf, and the wolf does not eat Tao when he sees him. They are bound to be very close friends.
